Present/Future Directions
Dr. Leyva's research agenda is deeply rooted in transcultural nursing principles, focusing on sexuality among vulnerable populations and the societal construction of gender stereotypes. His innovative work involves designing and evaluating art-based methodologies to enhance cultural competence in nursing education, fostering a nuanced understanding of cultural diversity in healthcare settings. Expanding his transcultural focus, Dr. Leyva is now examining the integration of gender perspectives in simulation laboratories. This cutting-edge study investigates how gender-inclusive practices in simulated healthcare environments may impact learning outcomes and clinical competencies. By exploring this dimension, he aims to enhance the effectiveness of simulation-based education in preparing healthcare professionals for diverse patient populations.
