Criteria and Application Process

The 2024 Application Process is Now OPEN!


Purpose:  The purpose of the Transcultural Scholars is to recognize persons who have demonstrated and documented exemplary scholarship by advancing transcultural nursing and health care research, education, practice and/or administration within regional, national, or global contexts.

Criteria for Nomination as a Transcultural Nursing Scholar

  • The Scholar nominee must be a current member of the Transcultural Nursing Society for at least one year prior to application, with certification as a transcultural nurse strongly encouraged.
  • The Scholar nominee must show documented evidence of the nine criteria listed below.
    1. Exemplary and creative scholarship in transcultural nursing and/or health care.
    2. Transcultural nursing and/or health care research and subsequent publications.
    3. Expert clinical practice and/or administration abilities in transcultural nursing and/or health care in a local, regional, national, or global context.
    4.  Implementation of and mentoring others on culturally congruent and competent care through education, research, practice and/or administration.
    5. Leadership in the dissemination and implementation of concepts, models, theories, and research relevant to transcultural nursing, health care, and education.
    6. Facilitation of innovative approaches to present and emerging issues in transcultural nursing and/or health care.
    7. Publications and presentations of transcultural nursing and/or health care knowledge to local, regional, national, and global audiences.
    8. Contributions made to the development of health policy at local, regional, national, and/or international levels.
    9. Past and ongoing contributions made to enhance the advancement and expansion of transcultural nursing and/or health care.
  • Scholar nominees must submit a 500-word statement reflecting how they meet the criteria for induction as a Transcultural Nursing Society Scholar.

Nomination Materials

Nominee Responsibilities

  • Completed Scholar Nomination form online.
  • Submit a copy of their current CV (10 Page Maximum) reflecting how they meet the Scholar Criteria.
  • Submit a 500-word statement reflecting how you meet the criteria for induction as a Transcultural Nursing Society Scholar.

Primary Scholar Sponsor Responsibilities 

  • Completed Scholar Nomination Form online.
  • Submit a 500-word statement of support that documents and describes how the candidate meets the criteria provided on the nomination form.
  • The primary sponsor must be a current and active Transcultural Nursing Scholar and an active Transcultural Nursing Society member for at least one year prior to sponsoring a new scholar application.

Secondary Scholar Sponsor Responsibilities 

  • Completed Scholar Nomination Form online.
  • Submit a 500-word statement of support that documents and describes how the candidate meets the criteria provided on the nomination form.
  • The secondary sponsor must be a current and active Transcultural Nursing Scholar and an active Transcultural Nursing Society member for at least one year prior to sponsoring a new scholar application.

Application Fee Payment ($50)

  • The nominee, primary or secondary sponsor, must submit the $50 application fee.  The application group should determine this before submitting the application information.
  • The $50 application fee must be received by the application deadline in order to go through the review process.
  • If the nominee is inducted as a Transcultural Nursing Scholar, dues will begin with the first Transcultural Nursing Society membership renewal after the induction.

Deadline

  • All materials and application fee must be submitted electronically and received by April 15 of the application year.

Maintaining ongoing Status as a Transcultural Nursing Scholar.

  • To remain in good standing, Scholars must pay a yearly fee of $50.00 in addition to their annual Transcultural Nursing Society International dues.
  • The first scholar's dues are due with the first Transcultural Nursing Society membership renewal after induction.
  • A grace period of up to one year will be granted for late dues, after which the individual will no longer be considered an active Scholar.

Notification and Induction

  • New scholars will be notified on or before  May 15 of the application year.
  • New scholars are encouraged but are not required to attend the induction ceremony at the Annual TCNS Conference and are responsible for all expenses associated with attending the conference.
