Present and Future Directions: I believe the future of transcultural nursing lies in building bridges among cultures, communities, and healthcare systems, and I am committed to making this vision a reality.
As an educator and advocate, I want all patients to have equitable access to high-quality healthcare that meets the unique needs of their cultural background, socioeconomic status, and the geographic location where they live. I will continue to work with nurse educators to prepare nurses to provide culturally congruent nursing practice in hospitals, outpatient clinics, rural areas, and other diverse nursing practice settings.
I will also continue to support existing transcultural nursing research as well as promote and develop new and innovative research that increases our understanding of culture's impact on health and healing, and I will support the implementation of evidence-based strategies and culturally responsive care in real-world clinical practice.
The direction for my career has been and will continue to be dictated by the connections and communications I will create with others. In this regard, I want to connect nurses, students, and communities to the full array of resources available to them from the resources of our organization so that they can develop their cultural competence and professional development.
By using all modes of communication, both verbal and nonverbal, digital, visual, and community-based, I will meet individuals where they are and with respect and understanding of their needs. Ultimately, transcultural nursing is about the celebration of the individual in the context of their unique cultural identity, values, and experiences. Moving forward, I will continue to promote equitable access to care, to encourage the integration of research into clinical practice, and to create a nursing workforce prepared to care for a rapidly diversifying world.
